As the weeks turn into months, people are getting more and more bored during the quarantine. With that newfound boredom comes the desire to find some form of entertainment, and there’s no better entertainment than sitting down on the couch with a bowl of popcorn, and watching all the episodes of a great show, back to back. However, it can be hard to find a good show to watch. After all, there are thousands of them out there, and not all of them can be good.
When finding a good show to binge-watch, it’s best to find something that’s interesting, and entertaining enough to want to watch all the way through. An example of this is the true-crime documentary series recently released on Netflix, “Tiger King”. The show focuses on big cat “conservationists,” who keep animals such as tigers in their own private zoos or sanctuaries. The main suspect of this show is Joe Exotic, the owner of an exotic zoo in Oklahoma, and his feud with Carole Baskin, who is the CEO of an animal sanctuary in Florida. It gets to the point where Exotic even accuses Baskin of murdering her husband, who’s been missing since 1997. The show has received very positive reviews, getting average online review scores of 75 out of 100. Unfortunately, if you do plan on binge-watching this show, there won’t be much to catch up on, as there’s a total of eight episodes, adding up to a total runtime of only six hours. However, if you’re a fan of true crime stories, then you won’t want to miss this interesting show, which is only available on Netflix.
Another example of a great show to binge-watch is the Netflix series “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”. This is a horror show based on the Archie comic book series of the same name, which focuses on Sabrina Spellman, who tries to get used to being a half-witch, half-mortal, while also fighting evil forces that threaten her, and the real humans they inhabit. This show received critical success, including being nominated for multiple awards. This show is a much longer show, adding up to a total of 28 episodes, resulting in a total runtime of around 28 hours. It doesn’t end there, as a fourth season has been announced, but hasn’t been given an official release date. However, if you’re in the mood to watch something scary, then this show is the one for you. The show’s available on Netflix, but can also be bought on Youtube, Amazon Prime Video, and Google Play Movies.
Often times the best way to scout a new show is just word-of-mouth from friends and classmates. Most SHS students have their own favorites. “I’ve been binge watching ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ and ‘Adventure Time,’ because they are really good shows with mind-blowing emotional and educational value,” sophomore Rhiannon Powell said.
If you’re not in the mood for anything serious, and just want to find something lighthearted and funny to watch, then a good show to binge-watch would be “The Good Place”. This show is about what happens in the afterlife, where, after someone passes away, they are either sent to “The Good Place,” or “The Bad Place.” The way this works is that every human is given a score based on the good deeds they did in their lives. If they get a high enough score, they get sent to the Good Place, which is a paradise, while the rest get sent to an eternity of torture in the Bad Place. It focuses on a character named Eleanor who is sent to the Good Place, but believes she was sent there by mistake. So, she has to try to fit in with everyone else, who has done multiple amazing things while she’s done nothing to change the world. With a unique premise, an all-star cast of characters, there’s no surprise that this show is doing very well. Luckily, there’s plenty of content to view on it, with four seasons, 53 episodes, and hours upon hours of great content to watch. The show is available in many places, including Netflix, Hulu, YouTube TV, Sling TV, and fuboTV.
With all the great shows on multiple different streaming services, it can be hard to decide what to watch next. However, whether it’s a new action-packed show you’ve never seen before, or a nostalgic cartoon from your childhood that you haven’t seen in years, there’s always a show for everyone who’s trying to find something to take their minds off what’s been happening these past couple months.
