With more and more people being vaccinated everyday, more businesses are opening back up. One of those places is the Sandy Cinema.
This can be exciting news for movie lovers as the last time the theaters were open was March 2020.
“One of the last movies I remember seeing is ‘The Call of The Wild’,” junior Timo Fuentes said.
The cinema will be opened everyday after memorial day weekend, however there are still limited showtimes due to Covid restrictions. People are allowed to come in a maximum group of six.
The Covid policy will also change, anyone who’s fully vaccinated will no longer require a mask. The cinema will still require all workers to wear a mask.
As for the movies showing, you may notice that many of them have already been released on streaming services such as HBO Max or DisneyPlus. “Godzilla vs. Kong” and “Tom and Jerry” have both already been released on HBO but most people have yet to see them.
“I don’t have HBO Max so if I find the time I would definitely go watch ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ and I know younger kids like my sister would be interested in seeing a movie like ‘Tom and Jerry’,” Fuentes said.
As for movies in the summer, it looks like a blockbuster summer. Movies like “Quiet Place Part II”, “Fast and the Furious 9”, “Black Widow”, and “Space Jam” are movies that are already being talked about.
“I’m hyped for ‘Quiet Place Part II’, it’s fun watching intense movies like that in theaters, even though I have’t exactly been to one in awhile,” Fuentes said.
With popular movies like this you have to be careful if you want to get a seat. Since they can’t fill seats to the max anymore they are doing reserved seats which can be purchased in person or online.
If you want to watch the movies but don’t want to be surrounded by strangers, renting a private theater for a showing is also an option. They’re available anytime of the day showing any of the movies they’re showing to the public. They cost $150 and you can have a maximum of 20 guests age two and up.
“Watching a movie in the theater has a different vibe then watching one at home. At home you can pause the movie so it doesn’t feel the same. The atmosphere of being in a theater just makes a movie better,” Fuentes said.
