After months on the slopes, the ski team went to State last week. Senior Jack Logan led SHS, placing sixth in the individual combined. The boys team was 10th.

Logan took eighth in slalom and 11th in giant slalom. Sophomore Dominic Pizzo was 38th in the combined.

In the girls combined, junior Denali Barrett took 32nd and senior Brekkan Richardson took 37th. The girls team took ninth.

Sandy took 14 skiers to state. Freshman Ethan Van Hee , Henry Rogers, Kenai Rowan, sophomores Pizzo, Nia Hamalainen, Sophia Brown, juniors Ava Barker, Aeris Eaton, Barrett, Elle Schreiner, and seniors Richardson, Logan, Jackson Rowley, and Matthew Ameele, all participated.

The events were boys and girls Slalom and Giant Slalom. The times in the two races are added together for the combined times.

“I competed in the giant slalom event. I had a feeling it would go pretty well since Sandy has a bunch of great skiers this year. The girls were second place in the league by the end of the season,” Eaton said before State.

This was many of these skiers’ last time competing, as they will be graduating in spring.
“This year state was more about just having a fun time than it was about placing for my last time. We worked really hard as a girls team to set down three good times every race to qualify for state. This is something we have really struggled with in the past, so I’m happy we were able to pull it off this year,” Richardson said.
