The Sandy High School student newspaper, The Pioneer Press, has been in publication under various names for close to 100 years. All content is produced by students and the publication functions as an open forum for student expression. Opinions expressed here are of the student staff and not necessarily the adviser or administration of Sandy High School.
In the last 20 years, the publications staff has won over 400 state journalism awards. Three Sandy High Students have been chosen Oregon High School Journalist of the Year and four others have been runners-up. The current adviser, J.D. McIntire was chosen the state high school publications adviser of the year in 2012. We are a member of National Scholastic Press Association and Quill and Scroll. The adviser is a member of the Journalism Education Association as well as the state chapter the Oregon JEA.
